Low Cost SSL certificate under 60 $ for your blog

How to set SSL on a private site, blog for example, way under 60$, and keep the change.

I bought my SSL certificate for this blog from namecheap  using their PositiveSSL,  which cost me 9.00$ a year, by comparing the different types of certificates you may decide to pick another option, but for a personal blog I thought the PositivesSSL, which is the cheaper option will be sufficient.

This is my first interaction and transaction with this company, so I can’t vouch at this point to the quality of the product and service, my first impression though, is that their site is very intuitive, their admin screen is easy to use, and their help is great, I was able to install the certificate in less than an hour. So, my ranking so far is fairly high.

Https is the preferred protocol by google and will rank your site higher… well a little higher anyway, since HTTPS is a lightweight signal effecting less than 1% of Google’s queries. the main benefit though, that you are using encrypted protocol which may come in handy when collecting sensitive user information, payment, etc.

Another huge and very important benefit of using HTTPS is the bragging factor. from now on you belong to the exclusive group of sites that support both protocols. seriously though, I won’t be surprise if in the future google will recommend everyone to move to https because it is designed to prevent 3th parties hijacking of your traffic between servers. some of the known advantages of using https:

  • HTTPS validate the authenticity of the target website.
  • Allow better customization on the client for secure sites and zones through the browsers.
  • HTTPS prevents tampering your traffic by 3rd parties.

How-To install SSL certificate; high-level steps:
